Free tours of the executive mansion were suspended when President Joe Biden took office, as officials tightened virus protocols in line with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The tour is self-paced and you can go back if needed to previous rooms, but you will not be able to exit the building and reenter.

Once you are inside, the tour is self-guided and will take about half an hour. For $6/bag for up to 24 hours, you can store your bags in nearby stores, souvenir shops, and even other hotels. Flash photography or live streaming as well as talking or texting on cellular phones is not permitted while on the tour. There is no dress code to tour the White House, but due to the importance of the building, you should want to dress neatly. There is no specific street address or sign - you just have to know you're in the right place, but since there is often a line it should be easy to spot. You can access it on foot from Constitution Ave NW, 15th and 17th. Again, they may close the area at times but it is temporary. You can drive by the north side of the White House by going westbound on H St NW. On foot you can get up to the fences on the North lawn, meaning you can take a photo between the fence bars that look as if you're on the grounds of the White House, no fence in sight. This is as close as can you get to the White House without taking a tour.
